Building your FOUNDATION

Our next focus will be whatever preparation or education or foundation that is needed for you to build your life. For many people, it is the educational basis. For some people, it may be the apprenticeship portion of their life. Whatever it is, determine where you are in your process of building your FOUNDATION, somewhere between 0 and 100.

Take into consideration that everyone is still learning in life and always can learn more.

You knew this was coming... FITNESS

When others talked about fitness, I used to think exclusively of physical exercise. Since reading Dr. Ted Morter, Jr.'s Dynamic Health, I now include six different parts to my definition of fitness.

As you determine where you are between 0 and 100 on the fitness scale, give yourself 4 points just for making this evaluation!

Here are the insights that Dr. Morter gave me with regard to fitness: (1) fitness is comprised of six elements: the air we breathe, the food we eat, the liquids we drink, the rest we take, the activity we do,and the thoughts we think; and (2) we MUST be vigilant and take responsibility for these six areas of our lives daily, just as we floss and brush our teeth daily!

I will admit that I have had some days where I worked through the night and didn't sleep for 24 hours; or some times I was so busy I forgot to eat for 24 hours. However, every day, I do breathe! And regardless of whether I think of it or not, every day, I have thoughts.

So the trick is to take responsibility for each of these six areas and award yourself anywhere between 0 and 16 points for each of these areas in your life.

As an example - consider the air we breathe. Do you smoke? Do you live or work with others who smoke? Do you work in an area that produces unhealthy air? Do you live in an area that has unhealthy air? Base your score on the answers to these questions with 0 being not so good and 16 being excellent.

In terms of the food we eat, I would strongly suggest that you read one of Dr. Morter's books or at least research the terms acid-ash versus alkaline-ash diets. His presentation turned my entire perspective about food upside-down - AND I have a chronic situation that dictates what I can and cannot eat, to some degree. Again, award yourself a score between 0 and 16 based on the healthiness of the food that you eat.

When you consider the liquids that you drink, review not only the types of liquids (alcoholic, caffeinated, sugar-laden, diet sodas, etc.), but also the amounts. It is my understanding that 1 quart of water per 50 pounds of body weight is the right amount of water. Based on those criteria, determine where your score is for the liquids that you drink.

Americans are known for working hard, so it may come as no surprise to find out that on the average, we don't get sufficient amount of sleep. Each person is different, but like food and drink, you must determine the optimal amount and quality that is right for you. Again, award yourself your score between 0 and 16 on the sleep that you get.

Although I have always considered myself in good physical health, until I began exercising DAILY, and feeling o, so powerful, I had NO idea how critical this piece was to my life. Do you exercise daily? For how long? What type? You should change the type of exercise that you do from time to time so that you don't develop muscle memory where the exercise isn't as valuable. What score do you earn on physical exercise between 0 and 16?

Dr. Morter's last contribution to fitness is in the thoughts we think. A great saying is that "You can't afford the cost of a negative thought." There are volumes of work on this - starting with forgiveness (others, yourself, then allowing others to forgive you); to manifestation of finding the positive in EVERY experience and showering gratitude on all events that come upon you. Out of a possible 16 points here, how many do you get?

So all together, adding these up, how many points out of 100 do you give yourself for fitness? It's another piece of the pie.

The next Balancing act...

Whether it's your birth family or the group of people you have selected to be around you, balancing your family life makes a big difference overall.

Consider the members of your family. Are you providing your contribution to them? Are you the respectful child, the supporting sibling, the parental leader, the nurturing aunt or uncle, the loving grandparent, that you need to be to every family member?

As you look at yourself with respect to each family member, consider where you are against where you would like to be, with 0 being a non-participant family member, and 100 the ideal family member.

Hold on to that self-defined number as we peer into the eight different fields to balance in our lives.

Importance of Balance

Good Ideas happen when you are in balance. Nearly all of us run full-speed ahead out-of-balance, or at least I do.

I have developed a way to determine my balance and I want to share it with you. Let's start with FAITH, and whatever that means for you. Stephen Covey in Seven Habits of Highly Effective People speaks well on this subject.

Before we proceed any further, let's investigate what FAITH means to you. For many, it automatically refers to religion. For some, it could be spirituality. I heard that the difference between religion and spirituality is those seeking religion are looking to avoid hell and those seeking spirituality have already been through it!

FAITH can be what you believe in - for some, it is their work life. For others, it's their immediate family. Some people only have FAITH in cold hard cash. Whatever it is, you must first determine what it is, then find where you are on the scale in terms of where you want to be, with 0 meaning you have no FAITH, and 100 means you are exactly where you want to be in FAITH in your life.

Think of a scale between 0 and 100 and determine where you are on that scale with relation to FAITH. Since you are reading this, you are already off of 0, so you are at least at 10.

Fish, Cats & Loops

I took the unique opportunity to visit with Dr. Stephen Lundin, author of Fish!, Cats, and Loops, among other books. What an incredible person he is, with a gift of sharing complex subjects in simple terms that are easy to implement.

For instance, in FISH!, he promoted Pike Place Fish in Seattle, one of many Seattle fish markets, with a distinct flair for customer service and fun. They sell the same fish as the other markets in the neighborhood, yet sell much greater volume due to their business principles. Dr. Lundin's book about the market's four business principles became a Wall Street Journal bestseller and continues robust sales.

The story of the book's evolution is even more amazing. Dr. Lundin was in Seattle to film a documentary when one of the filmmakers found Pike Place Fish. The filmmakers recognized the amazing market and asked Pike Place Fish if they could film the lively activities there.

Here's the interesting part: the fish market said, "Yes! We have been waiting for someone to come by to film us!" The fish market put their film request 'out there' and waited for it to be answered. The Law of Attraction brought all the right people together.

Here's another interesting side story: Dr. Lundin noted that a vegetable market stood directly across from Pike Place Fish. The vegetable market complained about the crowds from the attraction of the fish market and eventually went out of business. Can you image what would happen if the vegetable market had given thanks for the crowds and started promoting their wares?

The Science Behind Law of Attraction

Apparently the Law of Attraction is based on two scientific experiments that have been done repeatedly. The first one is simple and one that you probably did in grade school. At one end of a football field is a complete set of tuning forks. At the opposite end, 100 yards away, is one single tuning fork. The person holding the single tuning fork starts the one fork to vibrate.

At the opposite end of the field, out of ALL the tuning forks, only one tuning fork begins to vibrate - the single one that is at the identical pitch of the single vibrating tuning fork that is 100 yards away.

The second experiment regards measuring vibrations from individuals based on their thought patterns. Participants are told to think sad, depressing, dark thoughts while they stand behind a machine that measure body vibrations. The vibrations are small, low vibrations, with short peaks.

The same participant is then told to think of joyous, glad, celebratory thoughts while the participant stands behind a machine that again measures body vibrations. This time, the vibrations are high pitch, larger, with greater distinction.

When you think thoughts, your thoughts collect similar people, events, and things to you based on the vibration that you produce for the world to respond.

As they say, "You can't afford the price of a negative thought."
